MUSICIANS GOING TO ALL-STATE
Congratulations to Kevin Halenda (trumpet) on being selected to the PMEA All-State Orchestra.  This will be his second consecutive year in the All-State Orchestra.

Congratulations to Chris Jenko (alto sax) and Amy Yan (clarinet) on advancing to the PMEA All-State Band.

All three students qualified by audition at their respective Region Festivals and will represent FR at the PMEA All-State Conference in Hershey in mid-April.

VARSITY HOCKEY TEAM ADVANCES
The Franklin Regional Varsity ice hockey team has advanced to the semi-finals of the PIHL AA Division Penguin Cup playoffs.  The Varsity squad will face off tonight against Bishop Canevin at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA.  Game time is at 5:00 P.M.  The winner will play for the Penguin Cup and a chance to win the State Championship later on in March.  The game promises to be a good one, so come on down to the Mellon Arena and support the Panthers.  Admission for adults is $7.00, students $5.00, and children under age 11 are free.  Tickets can be purchased at Gate #1.  Hope to see you there !!!!
 
EXCELLENCE AWARD DINNER RESERVATIONS
The Annual Franklin Regional Excellence Awards will be presented to a number of deserving individuals representing our staff and community on Monday, March 31st at a formal dinner in the Panther Cafe at the Franklin Regional Senior High School.  The dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. 
 
This year's award recipients of the FR Excellence Award are Carla Gialloreto - Band Front Coordinator for the Franklin Regional Marching Band; Judy House - Middle School Social Studies teacher; Linda Lazzaro - Middle School Math teacher; Mike Malago - custodian at the Franklin Regional Senior High School; and Marlene Wilson -
First Grade teacher at Sloan Elementary School.

Any student in 9th through 11th grade who was absent last week and didn't get to fill out his or her bubble sheet for scheduling is asked to stop by the Counseling Center this week.
 
OPPORTUNITY
Career Day at Penn State - New Ken
Freshmen and sophomores are invited to attend PSU-New Ken for a day of interactive career exploration on April 2, 2008, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., lunch included.  (Juniors have PSSA's on April 2).  Students choose from one of three career paths: Biomedical fields; InformationSciences/Engineering/Business; or Communications/Psychology.  No fee to attend, but registration necessary.  Call 724-334-lion or email nkadmission@psu.edu.
 
SCHOLARSHIPS
Ray G. Anthony Scholarship
$2,500 for students residing in Western PA.  Criteria include minimum GPA of 3.0, SAT's of 1400, leadership, community service, and financial need.  Applications available in the Counseling Center. 
Deadline: May 30, 2008.
 
PAMS (PA Assoc. of Medical Suppliers) 
$1,000 to a student who is dependent on the help of home medical equipment or services.  Applications available in the Counseling Center. 
Deadline: April 11, 2008.
 
David Burt Memorial Scholarship
in honor of a former physics teacher at Franklin Regional.  Qualifications: education major, especially science education.  Applications available in the Counseling Center. 
Deadline: April 25, 2008.
 
Bernie Kamenjar Memorial Scholarship
in honor of a former Franklin Regional math teacher.  Amount varies from year to year. Qualifications:  major in education, science, math, or engineering.  Need considered.  Applications available in the Counseling Center. 
Deadline: April 25, 2008.
 
Franklin Regional Education Association
amount varies from year to year.  Qualifications: education major and support of 3 teachers.  Application includes an essay.  Applications available in the Counseling Center.

John Onder Memorial Scholarship
$500 in honor of a former Franklin Regional social studies teacher.  Requirements: education major.  Applications available in the Counseling Center. 
Deadline: April 25, 2008.
 
Patty Jones Memorial Scholarship 
in honor of a former Franklin Regional secretary. For students planning on an education major.  GPA, activities, volunteer work, and teacher recommendations considered.  Applications available in the Counseling Center.
