E-NEWS POSITION AVAILABLE FOR NEXT YEAR
I have decided to step down as the distributor of the e-news. After five years I think it is time for someone with a fresh perspective. Therefore I am actively seeking a willing volunteer for the position.  Anyone who is even remotely interested is welcome to email me at FRHSnews@windstream.net  with your questions. We can email, talk on the phone or meet and I will explain in more detail what the position involves.  Since the school has started to expand its use of the website the job really has become much less involved.

KEY CLUB CEREAL AND CEREAL BAR FOOD DRIVE
The Key Club is sponsoring a cereal drive for the Murrysville Food Pantry. We will be collecting cereal and cereal bars to pass out at the May Food Bank.

We would like students to bring donations to Mrs. Koury's room(234). She will track which 1st period class they are in. The class donating the most over 25 boxes will win a donuts for a morning of the teacher's choice. Here is where we need your help... This is a very worthwhile cause. Please encourage you child to participate. Donations from teachers will count toward the class total.

The food bank clients live right here in the Murrysville/Delmont/Export area. Mrs. Koury works at the Food Bank most months and has seen a lot of former FR students who are now on their own. The Westmoreland food bank supplies the food to this area, but does not provide many products that these people would like to have like cereal, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. That's why you see frequent food drives from various organizations.

The leading first period classes will be announced on the announcements. The drive started Monday and will end May 1st.

Join Jeff Poole and other members of the Franklin Regional staff in supporting the Murrysville Relay for Life by bringing in your antiques to be appraised by Sr. Poole, a Spanish and French teacher at the Franklin Regional Middle School.  If an item is too large, bring in several good photos. He started collecting at the age of 4 and by 12 he was selling antiques at the flea market in Latrobe. For the past 20 years he has maintained several antique shops and is a frequent seller on eBay. Sr. Poole has also done numerous appraisal fairs for the library system of Pittsburgh and several other organizations.  In addition to this he frequently shops the international markets in Argentina, England, France, Spain, the Czech Republic and Chile. With years of experience behind him he will appraise your items and let you know what your treasure is really worth! $5 per item will be charged with all proceeds to benefit the Murrysville Relay for life. The Appraisal Fair will be held in the FR Middle School lobby on Saturday May 3rd from 10-2. So come on down and find out once and for all, is it trash or treasure?

Relay for Life Planners Announce May Celebration
Starting in early May, the communities of Delmont, Export, Murrysville and Penn Township will be awash in purple, thanks to efforts by volunteers from the American Cancer Societys annual Relay For Life, a community campout against cancer.  We paint our towns purple to celebrate cancer survivorship and bring attention to the yearly event, which will be held on May 30-31 at the Franklin Regional High School track.

Were using the power of purple to bring good news to cancer survivors and to mobilize the community, said Relay chair Renee Mohler.  Paint Own Town Purple Day is a time to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors and to have some fun with the color purple in order to bring attention to the American Cancer Societys many programs and services in our community. It also spreads hope throughout our communities that one day this awful disease will be conquered.

Among the activities planned are the following:

·         Purple bows will be placed all along Old William Penn Highway on April 26 from the county line in Murrysville to Delmont. The bows are being provided by Pat Catans.
·         A house decorating contest, during which residents of all four communities will be encouraged to decorate the exterior of their homes using purple to express the theme of Relay For Life: Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back. During Relay, we celebrate survivors, remember those who have died and fight back against cancer. Rules, details and an entry form are available on the web site at: www.events.cancer.org/rflpamurrysville , email paintuspurple@aol.com or
call 724-325-7157.
·         The Mayors of each community along with the Penn Township Commissioners will be proclaiming May as Paint our Towns Purple month. A photo opportunity will be  April  23 at 5:00 at the FRHS stadium
·         Local students are creating posters to place in store windows to remind everyone of the upcoming Relay For Life.
·         May 23 has been declared Purple Power day. Employees at local businesses are encouraged to join area students in showing their colors by wearing purple that day.

The American Cancer Society invites everyone to join the fun, simply by logging onto the Web site www.paintourtownpurple.org to find ideas on how to Paint Our Town Purple at a school, town, college or workplace.

Relay For Life is a wonderful event, and the entire community is invited to participate on May 30 or 31.   But on April 26, join us in the spirit of celebration and in painting our town purple  to call awareness to this important event that works to benefit and recognize cancer patients, their families and their caregivers, said Mohler.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated, Mohler continued.

Registration forms and information about the Relay For Life are available from the
Web site at www.events.cancer.org/rflpamurrysville , by calling the American Cancer Society anytime at (800) ACS-2345, or www.cancer.org
