The Antique Road Show comes to Franklin Regional again!!!!!
Its time to clean out your attic and see what all of those treasures are worth! Join Jeff Poole and other members of the Franklin Regional staff in supporting the Murrysville Relay for Life by bringing in your antiques to be appraised by Sr. Poole, a Spanish and French teacher at the Franklin Regional Middle School.  If an item is too large, bring in several good photos. He started collecting at the age of 4 and by 12 he was selling antiques at the flea market in Latrobe. For the past 20 years he has maintained several antique shops and is a frequent seller on eBay. Sr. Poole has also done numerous appraisal fairs for the library system of Pittsburgh and several other organizations.  In addition to this he frequently shops the international markets in Argentina, England, France, Spain, the Czech Republic and Chile. With years of experience behind him he will appraise your items and let you know what your treasure is really worth! $5 per item will be charged with all proceeds to benefit the Murrysville Relay for life. The Appraisal Fair will be held in the FR Middle School lobby on Saturday May 3rd from 10-2. So come on down and find out once and for all, is it trash or treasure?

House Decorating Contest To Highlight Relay For Life Paint Our Towns Purple Celebration

The Relay For Life Committee in Murrysville is sponsoring a house decorating contest as part of the groups Paint Our Towns Purple campaign leading to the actual community wide overnight event on May 30-31.

The American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life committee urge residents of Murrysville, Export, Delmont and Penn Township to help paint their communities with a flood of purple to offer hope to cancer survivors. The color purple is the signature color of the American Cancer Societys Relay For Life event. It signifies the passion that cancer survivors, their families and their loved ones feel for the eradication of this disease. The Paint our Towns Purple campaign is also a way to mobilize the community in support of the mission of Relay For Life: celebrate survivors, remember those who have died and fight back against cancer.

Beginning in late April, Relay For Life volunteers will be placing purple bows all along Old William Penn Highway, Posters made by area students will grace local businesses. Banners will fly in each community and flyers will be placed on pizza delivery boxes.  Children will be asked to color pictures of a bow with their purple crayons or markers and then to display their artwork in their windows at home.

Homeowners who want to join the celebration can go to town, decorating the exterior of their homes with purple.

Participants should decorate the front of their house and/or their front yard using the theme The Power of Purple. Decorations must be visible from the road. The decorating should be completed and the house registered by May 7. Homes can be registered for judging by sending an e-mail to paintuspurple@aol.com or by calling 724-325-7157. Participants are asked to give their street address along with their actual town (where they pay taxes) rather than their post office.

Judging will be done by members of the Relay For Life committee, beginning May 8 with winners announced on May 14. The home chosen as the top winner will earn the residents a certificate towards dinner at Bruschetta's while the second place homeowner will be treated to lunch at McDonalds.

The committee hopes to use pictures of the decorated homes at the Relay and in publicity for the event, so participants who register their homes should understand that doing so constitutes permission for the Committee to use pictures as needed. For more information, call 724-325-7157.
