VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ACTIVITIES
FAIR
This Thursday there will be
an Activities Fair for the rising Freshman as part of their Transition
Day. I am in need of a few parents or students to help set up the
cafeteria, sign in the student ambassadors, hand out information flyers
and generally help direct the 8th graders. I don't have the exact times
yet, but my best guess is we will be able to get into the cafeteria
around 12:20 to set up the "booths". The kids will arrive around 1:00
and we will be done by 2:00. If you are free on Thursday and would like
to help out please email Anne Brendel at
FRHSnews@windstream.net. Thanks!

COUNSELING CENTER
MATERIALS
Now that
school is almost out and lockers are being cleaned out, please remember
to look around the house (and car) for any borrowed materials that you
or your student may have signed out from the Counseling Center. Each
year the counselors end up having to replace many of their resources,
because they are never returned! Thanks.

SENIOR
BANQUET
This year's senior banquet will held on
Tuesday, June 3rd aboard the Gateway Clipper. Please note the following
information:
FYI -
In the past more than 80% of the seniors go, making it truly a class event.
The evening includes music and dancing.
GRADUATION INFORMATION
Four tickets were sent home to every senior
family. If the ceremony is held inside the tickets will be used to admit
guests into the gym. The auditorium will be available for additional seating
and will be set up with a broadcast of the ceremony. If the graduation
ceremony is held outside the seating is unlimited. Inside or out the
ceremony begins at 6:45 PM. Typically the ceremony runs for 1 hour, 15
minutes to 1 hour, 30 minutes.
FYI - The auditorium is
a good alternative to the gym, the seats are cushioned, have backs and the
air-conditioning makes the crowded conditions much more tolerable.
The gym isn't air-conditioned. There will be fans
set up, but anyone who might be affected by the heat should probably sit
in the auditorium.
Seniors need to be in the auditorium by 5:45
p.m. The administration is asking that the students be dropped off
instead of driving themselves. Parking is at a premium (much worse than
a football game). To ensure everyone has a parking space please come in
one car, if at all possible.
GRADUATION PICTURES
The Lion's Club will be taking pictures of
each graduate when they receive their diploma. The senior class officers
opted to pay from the remaining class funds for one picture per senior. If
parents want to order more copies the order forms are available in the main
office.
FYI -
Every year the Murrysville
Lions Club takes pictures of students as they receive their diplomas. It
is a fundraiser for the Lions and a wonderful service to the parents.
Whether graduation is held in the stadium or the gym, parents are too far
away to get a really good shot of their child receiving their diploma, but
the Lions are stationed up close and personal. When my daughter
graduated, I took a chance and ordered one picture. When it came in the mail
a few days after graduation, I was so pleased with it that I ordered more.
The picture is 5x7 and cost is $5.

COLLECTION EVENT FOR HARD TO RECYCLE ITEMS
On Saturday June 7, 2008 from
8:30am to 12:00pm an event will be held at the Murrysville
Municipal Building on Sardis Rd. Westmoreland Cleanways has
announced it is now partnering with Murrysville company ELoop
llc to collect electronic waste. The collection event will be
for a number of hard to recycle items such as tires, vehicle
batteries, freon containing appliances, and electronic devices.
All of these items pose a hazard to the
environment and should not be placed in a landfill. There will
be small collection fees associated with this event and members
of the Westmoreland Cleanways Organization will
receive discounts.
