VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ACTIVITIES FAIR
This Thursday there will be an Activities Fair for the rising Freshman as part of their Transition Day.  I am in need of a few parents or students to help set up the cafeteria, sign in the student ambassadors, hand out information flyers and generally help direct the 8th graders.  I don't have the exact times yet, but my best guess is we will be able to get into the cafeteria around 12:20 to set up the "booths". The kids will arrive around 1:00 and we will be done by 2:00. If you are free on Thursday and would like to help out please email Anne Brendel at FRHSnews@windstream.net.  Thanks!

MILITARY LIST OPT-OUT
The Counseling Department is required by the NCLB law to supply a list of junior student names and addresses to the various branches of the U.S. Military.  However, students can choose to have their names removed from the list before it is submitted to the recruiters.  Students should stop by the Counseling Center this week, before summer break, if they wish to have their names deleted from the list.

2009 FRENCH TRIP DEPOSIT REMINDER
Students interested in participating in the France Adventure 2009 trip to France should make sure to send  a $300 check made out to Carol Schneider to her by Monday, June 9.  School or home address, it doesn't matter: 3200 School Road, Murrysville, or 5120 Cherry Drive, Murrysville.

2009 SPAIN TRIP NOTICE
Attention Spanish Students going to Spain next summer:
All registration forms and deposits are due to Miss Wills in the room 130 or Mr. Stanczak in room 124 at the Senior High School by Friday, June 6th.  If you were not able to attend the informational meeting to get the registration form, please see Miss Wills.  Registration forms are still available.

COUNSELING CENTER MATERIALS
Now that school is  almost out and lockers are being cleaned out, please remember to look around the house (and car) for any borrowed materials that you or your student may have signed out from the Counseling Center. Each year the counselors end up having to replace many of their resources, because they are never returned! Thanks.

LIBRARY NOTICE
Important Library Announcement: Students please return overdue books and pay off your library debts as soon as possible. Report cards will not be issued to students with outstanding debts or unreturned books.  Students are free to hold on to books they are using for an ongoing projects but those books should be renewed if they are overdue.  Thanks!

SUMMERTIME A GREAT TIME TO READ
Now is the time to plan ahead for the long days when exams are over and papers are all graded. Students are encouraged to pick up an armful of books for summer reading from the high school library - they won't be due until August 28th!!!

FALL SPORT PHYSICALS
Fall sports physicals will be offered at the Middle School nurse's office on both June 4 and June 18, 2008.  All student athletes must have their physical exam on or after June, and prior to the first practice date in August.  The cost is $20 and the form may be picked up at either the Senior High or Middle School offices.  On June 4 the physicals will be offered from 3:00 to 6:30 and on June 18 from 1:00 to 4:30. Schedules will be posted in both buildings for specific sports and times.

NATIONAL HONORS SOCIETY SENIOR MEMBERS
All senior members of National Honor Society who have not yet picked up their honor cords do so from Mrs. Burkett (214)  if their last name begins with A-L or Ms. White (226)  M-Z.

SENIOR BANQUET
This year's senior banquet will held on Tuesday, June 3rd aboard the Gateway Clipper. Please note the following information:
  • The banquet is FREE. (The cost is covered by Senior Year Dues) Seniors just need to show up. No tickets are required.
  • The dress is semi-formal.
  • Seniors must arrive at the docks by Station Square NO later than 5:30 PM.  The board sails promptly at 6:00 PM. It will NOT wait.
  • The boat returns to the dock at 9:00 PM.
  • The only cost is parking at Station Square.
  • If students need transportation, they should see Ms. Giron in room 225, ASAP.
FYI -  In the past more than 80% of the seniors go, making it truly a class event. The evening includes music and dancing.

GRADUATION INFORMATION
Four tickets were sent home to every senior family. If the ceremony is held inside the tickets will be used to admit guests into the gym. The auditorium will be available for additional seating and will be set up with a broadcast of the ceremony.  If the graduation ceremony is held outside the seating is unlimited.  Inside or out the ceremony begins at 6:45 PM. Typically the ceremony runs for 1 hour, 15 minutes to 1 hour, 30 minutes.

FYI - The auditorium is a good alternative to the gym, the seats are cushioned, have backs and the air-conditioning makes the crowded conditions much more tolerable.
The gym isn't air-conditioned. There will be fans set up, but anyone who might be affected by the heat should probably sit in the auditorium.

Seniors need to be in the auditorium by 5:45 p.m. The administration is asking that the students be dropped off instead of driving themselves. Parking is at a premium (much worse than a football game). To ensure everyone has a parking space please come in one car, if at all possible.

GRADUATION PICTURES
The Lion's Club will be taking pictures of each graduate when they receive their diploma. The senior class officers opted to pay from the remaining class funds for one picture per senior.  If parents want to order more copies the order forms are available in the main office.

FYI - Every year the Murrysville Lions Club takes pictures of students as they receive their diplomas. It is a fundraiser for the Lions and a wonderful service to the parents. Whether graduation is held in the stadium or the gym, parents are too far away to get a really good shot of their child receiving their diploma, but the Lions are stationed up close and personal.  When my daughter graduated, I took a chance and ordered one picture. When it came in the mail a few days after graduation, I was so pleased with it that I ordered more.  The picture is 5x7 and cost is $5.
