announcement show is now posted daily on the Franklin Regional Website. Go
to:
http://www.franklinregional.k12.pa.us/highschool/morningannouncements.asp
Click on the date to see the show for that day.
Monday's announcements included:
Blood Drive notice, Junior and Freshmen Class Officers
application deadlines, Homecoming Dance ticket info, SNAP picnic reminder,
National Honor Society volunteer request, Class Ring Sale info, Club
meetings scheduled this week and Counseling Center notices including college
visits scheduled this week and scholarship opportunities.
I strongly recommend you add this site to your favorites and
get in to the habit of checking it daily. That way you and your child
can always be informed about what is happening at school.

FYI - Please note that Counseling
Center's morning announcements are written up on the Counseling Corner

ADVANCE TICKET SALES FOR THIS FRIDAY'S
FOOTBALL GAME
Discounted student tickets ($2) to this Friday's football
game will be sold in the Athletic Office all day Wednesday, Thursday and
until 1:00 PM on Friday. Student tickets at the gate will be $5.
(ASB)
LETTERMAN JACKETS
A representative from Sol's Sporting Goods will be here on
Monday, September 24, beginning at 10:00 a.m. to take orders for varsity
letterman jackets. There will be jackets available to try on for sizing
purposes. Any student interested in ordering should stop in the Athletic
Office during their study hall or lunch.
(Mr. Kessler, 9/17)
FYI - Any student-athlete/cheerleader/band
member who has lettered or is anticipating a letter during 2007/2008 may
order a jacket. The cost is in the ballpark of $175 - $200 depending on the
style, size and number of letters placed on the back.
Similar to the class rings, a letterman
jacket is an item that you can choose to order through the school's vendor
or an independent supplier locally or elsewhere. As with the rings not all
families opt to purchase a jacket, that is a personable decision, but for
those who are thinking about it I wanted to let you know you do have a
choice. Particularly if you are not sure at this time you want to buy a
jacket. Even if you don't order now you can still get one this year if you
order it on your own.
(ASB)
HOMECOMING DANCE TICKETS
Homecoming tickets will go on sale next Monday, September
24th during all lunch periods and will be on sale until Friday, October 5th.
The tickets are $15 per student (make checks payable to FRHS Student
Council). Students are not required to have a date for the dance and all
grades are welcome. The dance will be held on Saturday, October 13th from
7PM to 10 PM in the high school gym. The dress is semi-formal and a
professional photographer will available early in the evening to take
pictures. Picture order forms will be available before the evening of the
dance.

SCHOOL STORE
The school store is operated by members of student council,
who work on a rotating basis throughout the school year. The store is open
after school from 2:20 to 3:00 PM. and is located in the front lobby
opposite the entrance to the Library. Students can purchase Gatorade, water,
ice tea, and Pepsi products to drink. The store also offers hot pretzels and
Tostino Pizza Rolls, as well as candy bars, Poptarts, granola bars, gum,
lollipops, chips, pretzels, cookies, oatmeal crème pies, and various small
candies. Prices range from $0.25 to $1.25. On occasion the Student Council
will sponsor a special sale where they offer pizza by the slice.
In addition to food and drinks the store sells t-shirts and
sweatshirts (crew and hoodie). Long sleeve shirts, beanies and ear warmers
are on order and will be in stock soon. The stores offers other FR items as
well, such as drink tumblers (hot and cold drinks), coffee mugs, jump
drives, lanyards and key chains.
The store will be open the night of Open House, so stop by
and check it out!

IS VISITING A COLLEGE AN EXCUSED ABSENCE?
I recently got this question from a parent and I thought it
was worth including in the news. Since if one parent was wondering I am sure
others are too.
The answer is no. Typically missing school to
visit a college is treated the same as when you keep your child home due
to an illness but without a doctor's note. You should send in a note of
explanation, but the missed day it is not considered an "excused absence"
like a field trip for a class or a SAL competition. However incurring
this kind of "unexcused absence" only becomes an issue if a child misses
more than 6 days in a 9-week period.
If the college visit includes a mandatory interview,
as is the case with the guaranteed medical school programs, the school will
consider that an "excused absence" since it was a requirement and not
optional, similar to a doctor's excuse.
I can't guarantee it but... I believe in most
cases the school will try and work with families if you are unfortunate
enough to have taken a few college trips and then your kid gets sick and
misses school and ends up being absent more that 6 days in a term. You will
get the attendance NOTICE automatically, but don't panic just yet. Contact
the appropriate people and explain the situation. If there are notes on
record regarding the college visits and the other absences the school will
probably accommodate your child. The attendance policy is in place
to prevent abuses and promote attendance which has been shown to be vital
component of a child's performance in school.

I am requesting to
have any athletic booster sponsors to contact me if you have a project or
idea that would have anything that you may need art students to help you
out. Our National Art Honor Society high school students are looking for
their community project ideas for this year. We do have some limitations as
far as what we are able to do, but we will try to work with you if
possible. Please contact: Mrs. Lori Mozina at:
