The upcoming test is October 27, 2007. The regular registration deadline is Friday, September 21st. Go to www.actstudent.org for more information and to register. (You will need a credit card.)

COLLEGE IN HIGH SCHOOL SIGN-UP DEADLINE TOMORROW
College in High School  (CIHS) is a statewide program that partners high schools and post secondary schools to help students earn credits toward high school graduation and college simultaneously.

Letters were handed out those students who are enrolled in the nine classes being offered this year as part of the CIHS program. In the letter the charges for the CIHS courses was presented. It was mentioned that FR had received a Duel Enrollment Grant to help offset the costs, but the exact amount was not know at the time the letter was written. I now have that information.

Grant monies will lower the cost of CIHS $20 per course.
One 3-credit course at California University will now cost $55
One 3-credit course at LaRoche College will now cost $85.

Registration (form and check) will take place in the Counseling Center and  will run from September 17th through September 21st.
Students need to complete a registration form for EACH class that they take. However, students may bring ONE CHECK with a combined total for all classes. Checks must be made out to FRANKLIN REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT.
(ASB, based on letter sent home and information provided by Ms. Mellon)

SENIOR YEAR DUES
As explained in the letter sent home in August with the students' schedules the high school has adopted a new Senior Year Dues program. All monies previously submitted under the old Class Dues system have been transferred to your child's new Senior Year Dues (SYD) account and applied towards the $70 in SYD owed.  Included with all of the juniors' and seniors' schedule in August was a statement showing how much they had paid to date and their remaining balance which is to be paid in full this year.

Class of 2009
This year's Junior Class sponsors are Mrs. Magness and Mrs. Trimnal. They have the old "Class Dues" records kept by the previous class sponsors during the Class of 2009's freshman and sophomore years. If you have misplaced the statement with your child's remaining balance and you can't remember what you have already paid, you will need to contact one of the sponsors to get the current remaining balance.

To make your payment please:
Make checks payable to "CLASS OF 2009"
CHECKS ONLY - no cash, please!
Please be sure to write the Student's name in the Memo Line along with 2009
Place check in an envelope, seal it and write "Class of 2009 Senior Year Dues" and Attn Mrs. Magness on the front.
Parents or students may drop the payment off in the main, please be sure the envelope is placed in Mrs. Magness' mailbox.
Payments may also be mailed to the school, Attn. Mrs. Magness, Class of 2009 Senior Year Dues

Class of 2008
This year's Senior Class sponsors are Ms. Giron and Mrs. Bryant. They have the old "Class Dues" records kept by the previous class sponsors during the Class of 2008's freshman, sophomore and junior years plus any payments made this summer when applying for a parking pass. If you have misplaced the statement with your child's remaining balance and you can't remember what you have already paid, you will need to contact one of the sponsors to get the current remaining balance.

To make your payment please:

Ways to help...
WOOD SCRAPS NEEDED
The senior high art department is looking for scrap wood pieces to use for wood burning projects.  We can use any type of wood but it needs to be ½ to an inch thick (no 2x4s).  Please contact Mrs. Mozina x.5134 or just drop off in our SHS office with Mrs. Mozinas name on it.
(Mrs. Mozina)

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
We are looking for any community members who are either professional or amateur artists who wish to share their talents with our senior high art classes.  We have had local artists in the past sharing how to do glass beads, ribbon embroidery, polish egg painting, oil painting, jewelry design, stained glass and more.  Our students really enjoy seeing these presentations and we also have a grant to cover any expenses.  You may chose to come in just for a day to share your work or just for a few class periods, or maybe stay for a few days to work with the students on a project.  If you or someone you know would be interested please have them contact Mrs. Mozina at: 724-327-5456 x. 5134 or email at:  lmozina@franklinregional.k12.pa.us
(Mrs. Mozina)

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to serve on this committee.  Our Breakfast of Champions will be held February 8 and again May 22.  Although the first Breakfast is months away, it is important for us to get together now to begin our planning.  We don't meet a lot during the year, however, we will meet at the end of September.  If you are interested, contact Ellen Dillard, ebd57@comcast.net or 724-733-4512.
(Ellen Dillard)

ATTENTION ATHLETIC BOOSTER SPONSORS
I am requesting to have any athletic booster sponsors to contact me if you have a project or idea that would have anything that you may need art students to help you out.  Our National Art Honor Society high school students are looking for their community project ideas for this year.  We do have some limitations as far as what we are able to do, but we will try to work with you if possible.  Please contact:  Mrs. Lori Mozina at: lmozina@franlinregional.k12.pa.us (email is faster).  Phone me at x.5134 if you do not have email access.
(Mrs. Mozina)

OFFICE DEPOT DONATES TO SCHOOLS
5% Back to Schools Program: Office Depot will give the high school an Office Depot Merchandise Card worth 5% of all qualifying school supply purchases made during each program period. Computers, TVs, all technology items including PDAs, all furniture items and accessories, some bulk packaged products, ink and tone cartridges, gift cards, and purchases made to contract business account are not qualifying purchases. BUT that still leaves notebooks, index cards, pencils, pens, highlighters, filler paper, dividers, glue sticks, paper clips, erasers, rubber bands and many other items you typically purchase throughout the year!

If you shop at Office Depot please remember to ask the salesperson to apply your purchase towards the Back to School Program. I was told at the store that the program runs year round!

They can look up Franklin Regional High School or you can make live a little easier for them by giving them our school ID# - 70087330.

TARGET TAKE CHARGE OF EDUCATION
Target's program involves having a Target charge card.  We are not encouraging you get their credit card, however if you already have one, please register online at Target.com or by calling 1-800-316-6142 and name Franklin Regional High School as your school of choice. If you are registering online, click on Take Charge of Education (normally at the bottom of the page). Every time you make purchases at Target using your Target credit card the high school earns a 1% cash rebate. Cash purchases do not qualify. Target mails a rebate check to the school twice a year.  We currently have over 600 people signed up and in March the school received almost $600, which represented money earned from the previous six months.  A Target credit card holder does not have to have a child attending FRHS to designate it as their school of choice. If you know of anybody (FRHS parent, family, friends, or neighbors) who might be willing to participate in these programs please forward this notice to them.  Thanks!
(FRHS PTO)

FYI - If you already have a Target card, this would be a great time to name FRHS as your school of choice.  This is a year-round program.  Once you register you don't have to re-register, nor are there any program dates to keep track of in order to make sure your contributions count.

ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING
Annie Essay's and Judy Polcyznski's classes collect aluminum cans. The Life Skills classes uses the money earned to participate in functional and community base activities.

Cans can be dropped off in the fenced-in collection bin behind the middle school. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE BAGS OR BOXES IN THE CAGE. If you have cans in a container, leave them beside the cage and the Life Skills students will take care of them. The collection and recycling program is an all-year activity.
