OPEN HOUSE THIS TUESDAY EVENING
The FRHS Open House is Tuesday, September 25th
from 6:00~8:10 PM. Student were given letters on Friday inviting parents to
Tuesday evening's Open House. If you didn't get yours yet, ask for it. It
contains detailed information about the evening and has a place for your
child to fill in his or her schedule for you to follow. Make sure the
schedule portion is filled out with your child's Tuesday schedule otherwise
you won't know where to go the night of open house.
For those of you who are new to high school let me summarize
the evening... at 6:00 PM all the parents gather in the auditorium for a
few introductory remarks by the administration and entertainment provided by
the chorus and media classes. Then at 6:20 you will be dismissed to your
student's first period class. You get to follow their schedule and
experience their day, including trying to navigate through the halls during
each 4-minute "class change". Each class is only allotted 8 minutes, so
clearly this is not the time for a parent-teacher conference, but it is fun
to see the rooms and be able to put a face to the name of each of your
child's teachers. Most teachers will have handouts including a course
syllabus and/or classroom rules and goals. For those unfamiliar with the
layout of the school there will be maps available, plus signs will be posted
in the halls and members of the National Honor Society will available to
direct you if you get hopelessly turned around. Be forewarned the room
numbering system has a few quirks, plus the map doesn't show all of the
stairs.
While in the school,
either before the program starts, during a study hall period or after
the last period, take the time to stop by the PTO tables which will be
stationed outside the cafeteria in the front lobby and outside the
auditorium in the back lobby. You can drop off your PTO member/student
directory sign-up form or pick one up. We will also be collecting
E-News subscriber enrollments.
FYI - Due to the number of people who usually
attend open house I strongly suggest you get there early to allow time to
find a parking place.
SENIOR YEAR DUES CLARIFICATION
A new policy with regards to class dues was instituted this
year. The old Class Dues system has been discontinued and has been replaced
with a Senior Year Dues system. Therefore, dues will NO LONGER be collected
in Freshman or Sophomore years. This year only, juniors and seniors are
being asked to pay their balances. Next year only juniors will be asked to
pay the Senior Year Dues.
(ASB)
THE PANTHER SUBSCRIPTIONS AVAILABLE
The FRHS school paper, The Panther,
is offering parent subscriptions. For only $30, you will receive 10-12
eight-page colored issues of The Panther, plus our
special senior issue. Not only will you get an inside view of all the high
school activities and more, but you will be supporting the production of the
paper.

print and fill out this form. Any questions, please contact Becky Magness

RING ORDERS TO BE TAKEN TUESDAY DURING LUNCH
AND OPEN HOUSE
A representative from the Balfour Company will be at FRHS in the front lobby during all lunch periods and during open house on Tuesday, September 25th. He will be taking orders and collecting a $50 minimum deposit. The sale is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Packets were distributed to sophomores in their first period classes. Juniors and seniors who are interested in purchasing a ring will need to pick up an order packet in the main office. (ASB)
FYI - The main goal of
this newsletter is to improve communication. That includes
informing parents that they have options when it comes to certain
school related issues. For instance, you have no choice when
purchasing a yearbook, you either decide to buy the one provided
through the school or you don't. There isn't an alternative yearbook
that you could purchase elsewhere. But there are a few items where
families do have options. One such case is the class ring. Not all
families opt to purchase a ring... that is a personal decision...
but for those of you who are considering buying one I wanted to pass
along basic information I have gathered from other FRHS parents'
experiences. I am not implying one option is better than another. I
just believe the more informed a decision a family can make the
better.
Balfour
has a contract with the school and takes ring orders 2 times during
the year; in the fall and in the early spring around March. It
takes about 3 months to get your ring. You can make payments during
those 3 months until they send you a notice of delivery (however
payments are not required) They do not provide payment slips or
coupons, so you will need to keep track of your payments. To the
best of my knowledge, the notice for Class Ring Pickup, which states
the balance due and pickup information, is delivered to the student
in their first period class. Balance is due on delivery (do not mail
in balance). Three methods of payment are accepted: cash, money
order, or personal check. As part of your purchase price you enroll
in a replacement insurance program through which you can replace a
lost or damaged ring for a set deductible payment. Based on parental
feedback that I have received, people who ordered from Balfour were
happy with quality of their child's ring and the selection of styles
available.
Your primary
alternative is going to an independent jeweler. Parents have
stated this option provided very similar rings as Balfour
including the choice of stones and designs to put on the
ring. In most cases the delivery time was shorter. With an
independent jeweler you can order the ring anytime during the
year and all grade levels are eligible to purchase a ring. I am
told the pricing is approximately the same or possibly cheaper
than Balfour depending on what style of ring you choose. As with
Balfour, you will be asked to put down a deposit (though the
amount may be differ from $50) and you should ask about a
replacement plan or warranty. The parents who purchased locally
were pleased with quality of their child's ring and the
selection of styles.
There are other jewelry outlets and sites
on the internet as well, however I didn't get any personal
recommendations from parents regarding either of these options.
LETTERMAN JACKET ORDERS TO BE TAKEN
MONDAY
A representative from Sol's Sporting Goods will be
here on Monday, September 24, beginning at 10:00
a.m. to take orders for varsity letterman jackets. There will be
jackets available to try on for sizing purposes. Any student
interested in ordering should stop in the Athletic Office during
their study hall or lunch.
(Mr. Kessler, 9/17)
FYI - Any
student-athlete/cheerleader/band member who has lettered or is
anticipating a letter during 2007/2008 may order a jacket. The cost
is in the ballpark of $175 - $200 depending on the style, size and
number of letters placed on the back.
Similar to the class rings, a
letterman jacket is an item that you can choose to order through the
school's vendor or an independent supplier locally or elsewhere. As
with the rings not all families opt to purchase a jacket, that is a
personal decision, but for those who are thinking about it I wanted
to let you know you do have a choice. Particularly if you are not
sure at this time you want to buy a jacket. Even if you don't order
now you can still get one this year if you order it on your own.

HOMECOMING DANCE TICKETS GO ON

Monday, September 24th during all lunch periods and

and all grades are welcome. The dance will be held on Saturday,
October 13th from 7PM to 10 PM in the high school gym. The dress

Mrs. Bryant)
KEY CLUB ROSE SALE ENDS MONDAY
Each year at this time Key Clubs all over the
country have a rose sale. The sale proceeds help supply
nutrients to children in impoverished countries and help to
pay each club's national dues.
The roses come in a box with ferns and babies
breathe and are mixed in color per dozen (no specific color
can be ordered since all boxes are mixed). The roses are
beautiful and better than what you buy at most florists. If
you have a special occasion coming up or would just like to
have a dozen gorgeous roses, please consider supporting this
effort.
The is runs through Monday, September
24th.
The cost is $17 per dozen roses.
Checks must be made out to
Murrysville Kiwanis
Payment must be received by 9/24/07.
The delivery date is Thursday, October 25th.
If you are interested in placing an order you may contact
any member of the Key Club or contact Mrs. Koury (Bkoury@franklinregional.k12.pa.us)
to place your order and arrange for payment. Orders may be
picked up in the high school auditorium lobby between 12:30
and 1:30 PM on October 25th. The club has no means to store
the roses after this date.
(ASB, based on information provided by Mrs.
Koury)
