Ways to help...
(New or updated items' titles are highlighted in blue)

WOOD SCRAPS NEEDED
The senior high art department is looking for scrap wood pieces to use for wood burning projects.  We can use any type of wood but it needs to be ½ to an inch thick (no 2x4s).  Please contact Mrs. Mozina x.5134 or just drop off in the HS office with Mrs. Mozinas name on it.
(Mrs. Mozina)

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
We are looking for any community members who are either professional or amateur artists who wish to share their talents with our senior high art classes.  We have had local artists in the past sharing how to do glass beads, ribbon embroidery, polish egg painting, oil painting, jewelry design, stained glass and more.  Our students really enjoy seeing these presentations and we also have a grant to cover any expenses.  You may chose to come in just for a day to share your work or just for a few class periods, or maybe stay for a few days to work with the students on a project.  If you or someone you know would be interested please have them contact Mrs. Mozina at: 724-327-5456 x. 5134 or email at:  lmozina@franklinregional.k12.pa.us
(Mrs. Mozina)

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to serve on this committee.  Our Breakfast of Champions will be held February 8 and again May 22.  Although the first Breakfast is months away, it is important for us to get together now to begin our planning.  We don't meet a lot during the year, however, we will meet at the end of September.  If you are interested, contact Ellen Dillard, ebd57@comcast.net or 724-733-4512.
(Ellen Dillard)

ATTENTION ATHLETIC BOOSTER SPONSORS
I am requesting to have any athletic booster sponsors to contact me if you have a project or idea that would have anything that you may need art students to help you out.  Our National Art Honor Society high school students are looking for their community project ideas for this year.  We do have some limitations as far as what we are able to do, but we will try to work with you if possible.  Please contact:  Mrs. Lori Mozina at: lmozina@franlinregional.k12.pa.us (email is faster).  Phone me at x.5134 if you do not have email access.

OFFICE DEPOT DONATES TO SCHOOLS
5% Back to Schools Program: Office Depot will give the high school an Office Depot Merchandise Card worth 5% of all qualifying school supply purchases made during each program period. Computers, TVs, all technology items including PDAs, all furniture items and accessories, some bulk packaged products, ink and tone cartridges, gift cards, and purchases made to contract business account are not qualifying purchases. BUT that still leaves notebooks, index cards, pencils, pens, highlighters, filler paper, dividers, glue sticks, paper clips, erasers, rubber bands and many other items you typically purchase throughout the year!

If you shop at Office Depot please remember to ask the salesperson to apply your purchase towards the Back to School Program. I was told at the store that the program runs year round!

They can look up Franklin Regional High School or you can make live a little easier for them by giving them our school ID# - 70087330.

TARGET TAKE CHARGE OF EDUCATION
Target's program involves having a Target charge card.  We are not encouraging you get their credit card, however if you already have one, please register online at Target.com or by calling 1-800-316-6142 and name Franklin Regional High School as your school of choice. If you are registering online, click on Take Charge of Education (normally at the bottom of the page). Every time you make purchases at Target using your Target credit card the high school earns a 1% cash rebate. Cash purchases do not qualify. Target mails a rebate check to the school twice a year.  We currently have over 600 people signed up and in March the school received almost $600, which represented money earned from the previous six months.  A Target credit card holder does not have to have a child attending FRHS to designate it as their school of choice. If you know of anybody (FRHS parent, family, friends, or neighbors) who might be willing to participate in these programs please forward this notice to them.  Thanks!
(FRHS PTO)

FYI - If you already have a Target card, this would be a great time to name FRHS as your school of choice.  This is a year-round program.  Once you register you don't have to re-register, nor are there any program dates to keep track of in order to make sure your contributions count.

ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING
Annie Essay's and Judy Polcyznski's classes collect aluminum cans. The Life Skills classes uses the money earned to participate in functional and community base activities.

Cans can be dropped off in the fenced-in collection bin behind the middle school. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE BAGS OR BOXES IN THE CAGE. If you have cans in a container, leave them beside the cage and the Life Skills students will take care of them. The collection and recycling program is an all-year activity.

I hope those of you who were able to attend the Open House on Tuesday night enjoyed the chorus performance as much as I did! The Pippin song, "Corner of the Sky" has been one of my favorites since high school when I saw the show on Broadway. Congratulations to Mr. Rust and chorus for another job well done. I also enjoyed the Open House version of the Panther News Break. I think it was a great addition to introductory program in the auditorium and contained a lot of valuable information, particularly for freshman parents and I don't just mean the plug for the E-News. I thank the members of Student Council and NHS that were EVERYWHERE in the building and so eager to help parent who looked lost. I am sure for those new to the building and its rather unique room numbering scheme it was a great help.

I finished logging in all the new subscription requests collected at Open House and a few that were emailed to me recently. The newsletter is now being sent to 872 addresses! YEAH! That is 20 more than this time last year! That doesn't mean I can't add more to the list. The e-news isn't an exclusive club.. I say the more the merrier. Please continue doing the great job of spreading the word among your friends and neighbors. Let them in on your information source. All I need is a name, phone number (in case I have a problem with delivery), an email address (work, home or both), and if they don't mind, the grade level of their high school children (I try to keep track so I know how well any given grade level is represented).

Have a great day!

Anne Brendel
