Today's news is another long one! I am going out of town and don't expect
to get another newsletter out until next Wednesday, so I wanted to include
as much as possible in today's edition. In addition to the various news
items I have included both the fundraiser notices and a section including
volunteer requests and other ways to help. Don't forget to stay up to date
by checking the school's web page for the morning announcements and the

HOCKEY REPORT
The Franklin
Regional Varsity Ice Hockey team defeated the Thomas Jefferson
Jaguars by a score of 6-3 in a hard hitting contest on Monday night at
the Center Ice Arena. Panther goals were scored by Shane Crossey,
Eugene Mack, and John Cecere, with a hat trick by Jared Yesko. The
Franklin Regional offense tallied 34 shots on goal, while the defense
only allowed 25 shots against goaltender James Orr. The victory raised
the Panthers' season record to 3-0, as a large and vocal group of
students and fans cheered them on. The Varsity team will take on Bishop
Canevin at the Center Ice Arena on Friday night, November 9, 2007 at
8:15 P.M.
The Franklin Regional Junior Varsity
Ice Hockey team prevailed over the Norwin Knights and won their
first game of the young season, 3-1 at the Center Ice Arena on Tuesday
night. It was a defensive struggle until the end of the third period,
as both goaltenders only surrendered one goal each. Lucas Chiala opened
the scoring for the Panthers, while Luke Stickel scored the game winner
late in the third period. Stickel also added an empty net goal with
less than a minute to play. Panther goaltender, James Orr, stopped 20 of
21 shots, while the Panther offense racked up 30 shots on goal. The
Junior Varsity team will skate against Penn-Trafford on Friday,
November 9, 2007 at the Center Ice Arena. Game time is 8:45 P.M.
Both ice hockey teams thank the students and fans for
their support. Come out and watch your Panthers take the ice against
some of the best teams in the western

GIANT EAGLE APPLES
FOR THE STUDENTS
The FRHS PTO is again encouraging any Giant Eagle shopper to help the high school in this FREE program. Register your Advantage Card and your spending will help the school earn points that can be exchanged for FREE educational products. Last year we received 3 microscopes, a DVD/VCR player and a volleyball. This year's program begins on Sunday, October 28, 2007 and continues until Saturday, March 15, 2008. If you registered last year, you are already registered this year. THANK YOU! You can change the school that you wish to support anytime. You can designate up to 5 different schools for your spending to be divided equally among those chosen. There are two easy ways to register your Advantage Card so that the high school receives your spending electronically. 1. Call toll-free 1-800-474-4777 and follow the prompts. Have your Advantage Card on hand for the 12 digit number on the back. Our school code # is 1704. 2. Visit www.gianteagle.com. Search for Apples For The Students and follow the instructions. Have your Advantage Card ready and use our school code #1704. Encourage your friends and relatives to register their Advantage Cards to help the high school. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Questions? Call Judy Stramat (724-733-5923) ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING
Annie Essay's and Judy
Polcyznski's classes collect aluminum cans. The
Life Skill classes use the money earned to
participate in functional and community based
activities such as the Special Olympics.
Cans can be dropped off in the fenced-in
collection bin behind the Middle School. The
cage is just for loose aluminum cans. No
plastic bottles or bi-metal cans, please.
Please DO NOT put bags in the cage!
If you have collected your cans in a bag or some
other container and you are unable to dump the
cans into the cage, please do not toss
them in container and all. Simply place your
container on the pavement near the cage and the
students will take care of it. If a bag is
tossed into the cage someone must physically
climb into the cage and remove it! This can be
dangerous, not to mention unpleasant and in
the warm weather the bees and yellow jackets add
to the safety concerns whenever someone has to
climb in to remove bagged cans. So please
remember - ONLY LOOSE CANS IN THE CAGE. Thanks!
The aluminum can
collection and recycling program is an all-year
activity.

Editor's note: I will run
fundraising announcements in the E-News about
once a week. If you are associated with a school
related organization and would like to advertise
it in the E-News please send me an article to
FRHSnews@windstream.net.
I have found the simpler the format the better.
Often when I copy more complicated items the
original formatting (fonts, spacing, colors,
etc) doesn't transfer well and I end up having
to retype the article. Please be sure to include
a contact person and an end date, so I know how
long to run the article.
