FRHS E-News
December 12, 2007
As you can tell by this week's calendar there are lots of activities to keep
track of this time of year! Many of the school's organizations are
sponsoring events to support the holiday telethon. Please consider
contributing to one or more of them, not only will you be supporting the
students' efforts, but helping those in our community in need.
I went to the Chorus and Orchestra Concert last night and was treated to a
wonderful musical evening as always. I am continually amazed by the talent
displayed at these concerts. I haven't had a child in chorus since my
daughter was a freshman six years ago, but I always try to go to the
concerts because I enjoy them so much. My congratulations all who performed
last night and to Mr. Rust and Mr. Pollock for doing such a great job
guiding these young musicians.
Before I went into the concert I got a brief peek at some of the Holiday
Telethon Chinese Auction baskets that were on display in the lobby. They
were garnering a lot of interest among the crowd. I talked to Mrs. Pursglove
when the concert was over. Apparently they had brisk business! Between the
concert goers and the basketball game fans they sold out of the tickets they
had on hand! Plus she said it wasn't even all the baskets, just those she
could pull together by evening. (Since yesterday was the day baskets were
due, some still need to be finished and their ticket containers made.) Mrs.
Pursglove is going to send me a schedule of where and when ALL of the
baskets will be on display so any of you who are interested in trying you
luck at winning a basket can buy your tickets and stuff the corresponding
container.

BASKETBALL REPORT
The boys basketball team racked up another win last night at home with
both junior varsity and varsity teams beating Albert Gallitin. The JV
final score was 68 to 46 with varsity winning decisively 94 to 59.
Tommy Summers was high scorer with 23 followed by Nick Novak's 18 and
Dylan Pavlik's 16. Next game is Friday at Latrobe High School. Do it
again, Panthers!
Panther Pit Perks winner for the Albert Gallitin game was Chris Owens who won a $20 gift card to Subway. The team would like to thank all of the students in attendance for rooting us on to victory!
HOCKEY REPORT
The Franklin Regional Junior Varsity Ice Hockey team held off a late
third period rally by the Norwin Knights, winning their fourth game of
the season, 4-3, at the Center Ice Arena on Tuesday night. Atilla
Balaszi stopped 15 shots on goal, as the Panthers out shot the Knights
27 to 18. Luke Stickel had a hat trick, and Lucas Chiala added a goal to
complete the Panther scoring. The Junior Varsity team raised their
season record to 4-2-1 with last night's victory. The JV team will face
off against Kiski at the Center Ice Arena on Friday night, December 14,
2007. Game time is 8:45 PM.
The Varsity Ice Hockey team will be back in action on Thursday, December
13, 2007, when they play an away game against South Park at 6:40 PM.

SOPHOMORE CLASS TRIP
The sophomore
class is planning a class trip to Seven Springs for snow tubing. The
trip will take place on Friday, February 8th with a
back-up date of February 22nd in case of inclement weather. The
tickets for the trip will be $17 per student. The cost includes
admission for the snow tubing and transportation to and from Seven
Springs. The cost of dinner or snacks is not included in the trip
cost and will be the responsibility of each student.
Students will meet
at 4 PM in front of the school. Buses will leave promptly at 4:10
PM. The plan is to be at Seven Springs for the 6-8 PM snow tubing
session. Students will be expected to meet at the designated area at
Seven Springs 10 minutes prior to departure. All students must make
arrangements for transportation home from the high school. Unless
notified by their child that things are running behind schedule,
parents should plan to be at the high school to pick up students at
10 PM.
Due to the need
for confirming reservations and transportation, payments and
permissions slips are due by December 13th. Checks
should be made out to Class of 2010 and placed in an envelope with
the student's name clearly written on the front of the envelope.
Students must include a signed permission slip and Seven Springs
release with their check for the trip in the envelope. There is a
collection box in the main office for envelopes. No checks will
be accepted after December 14th.
(ASB, based on
letter by Ms. Stevens)
FYI - Extra copies
of Ms. Steven's letter, permission slip, and Seven Springs release
form are available in the main office next to the collection box.

PARENT
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP WITH TELETHON
Ms. Pursglove (one of the organizers
for the telethon) is looking for parent volunteers
on December 21st during the school day. She needs 4
to 6 parents from 9 to 11 AM and 4 to 6 more
volunteers from 11 AM to 1 PM. Volunteers are
needed mainly to help with crowd control
by directing audience and participants to their
appropriate locations. This is great way to support
the kids, performers and organizers alike and to get
into the holiday spirit.
If you are interesting in
helping during either or both shifts please email
Penny Holden (holden3@comcast.net)
as soon as possible.

cause please contact Mrs. Magness at
bmagness@franklinregional.k12.pa.us.
