This will the last news until after the break. I am off to Philadelphia tomorrow to retrieve my daughter from college. I am sorry to miss the telethon, but I hope the students have a wonderful turn out both Thursday night and Friday during the day. Please try to get out and support them. Remember the proceeds will go the help those in need right here is our local area.

Mrs. Shelley Shaneyfelt will be our guest speaker at the January 14th meeting. Her presentation will be on the Dashboard program and its implementation throughout the district.

CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST EXTRAVAGANZA
Newlonsburg Church would like to invite any student who parks at or Near Tarr Hollow (or any who would just need to grab a bite to eat before school)  to stop in this Friday morning from 6:30-7:15 am for a Christmas Breakfast Extravaganza!  They�ll have home-made breads, egg strata, coffee, hot chocolate, and more!  Start off the day with a great Christmas breakfast.  It�s our gift to you!

FIRST PLACE FINISH
Our FR student team of Olivia Colangelo, Kristin Sandness, Alec Fontaine, and Mike O'Neill won 1st place in the Geography Bowl at Hempfield!

BASKETBALL REPORT
Both JV and varsity teams beat Connellsville last night. JV's final showed Panthers with 59 to Falcon's 56. Top 3 scoring players were Josh Stanicia, Brennan Boyd, and Tim Rabe.  Varsity won with a score 82 to 71. Top 3 scoring players for FR were Nick Novak, Anthony Vendemia, and Dino DeFlavio.  That takes the varsity record to 4 wins 0 losses in sectional play, 6 wins and 3 losses overall.  Thing will be heating up this Friday as area rival Hempfield comes to our gym: JV @ 6:30, varsity @ 7. 
Panther Pit Perks winner for Tuesday was Mark Cepko. Friday's Perks will be a $20 gift card to Dunkin Donuts.Thanks for supporting your boys basketball team.
 
HOCKEY REPORT
The Franklin Regional Junior Ice Hockey team lost to the Penn-Trafford Warriors, 7-2 on Tuesday night at the Center Ice Arena. The Panthers were out shot by the Warriors, 24 to 11, with Attila Balazsi stopping 17 shots on goal. Jack Gurrentz and Lucas Chiala scored one goal apiece, while Anthony Talamo and Jordan Sirianni each had an assist for the Panthers.  The JV team takes a break until January 3, 2008, when they play an away game against State College. Meanwhile, the Varsity team travels to Erie on Thursday, December 20, 2007, where they will take on Erie Cathedral Prep at 8:15 PM. Both teams thank you for your support.

FOOD DRIVE TODAY
The Photography Club of Franklin Regional High School is collecting non-perishable food items for the Westmoreland County Food Bank.  The event will take place at the Murrysville Giant Eagle today (12-19-07) from 2:30 - 6:00.  Food Banks around the area are struggling this year so donations are needed and are very welcome.
 
SUDOKU ACTIVITY TO BENEFIT HOLIDAY TELETHON
The Chess Club will be sponsoring sudoku games in the LGI on Friday, December 21st during periods 8 & 9. Tickets will be sold for $1 at all lunch periods. All proceeds will benefit the telethon.

This is a great alternative for those who have seen National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation multiple times and would rather do something different at the end of the day on Friday.
 
GUITAR HERO COMPETITION
Mr. Rust's guitar class is hosting a Guitar Hero competition on December 19th. All proceeds will benefit the Holiday Telethon.
 
Students of all grades can play during their 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th period study hall, lunch or regular class period with teacher's permission. The entry fee is $2. The winner of each period will play in the final round immediately after school. Both the in-school and after school competition will be held in the Chorus Room.  The champion will win a gift card to Best Buy.
 
Sign up sheets are on the bulletin board outside of the chorus room. Students can see Mr. Rust in the Chorus room for any additional information.
 
MOVIE FUNDRAISER SLATED FOR DECEMBER 21st
Is your child looking for a way to support the Holiday Telethon? Why not suggest they attend the special viewing of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Tickets will be sold for $2 during lunches on Tuesday and Wednesday. The movie will be shown in the auditorium during periods 8 & 9 on Friday, December 21st. No students will be admitted to the movie without a ticket. Students are asked to show their ticket to their 8th and 9th period teachers today or tomorrow so the teachers will know that the student will not be in class on Friday.
 
CHINESE AUCTION SCHEDULE
The KHK Chinese Auction will be displayed in the back hallway of the Cafeteria during all lunch periods (10:30 AM to 12:45 PM) Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week and from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM in the front lobby on Friday, December 21st. In addition the baskets will be on display on Thursday night from 6:00 - 8:00 PM during the telethon in front of Shur Save in the Creekside Shopping Center.
 
Tickets are 3 for $1 or an arm's length for $5.  There are over 30 baskets this year! Some of the goodies include food, movies, gift certificates, a portable DVD player, Civic Light Opera theater tickets, tickets to a Pitt basketball game, and an IPOD Touch. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Holiday Telethon.
 
MULTICULTURAL EXTRAVAGANZA
Students are invited to be part of the Franklin Regional Multicultural Extravaganza on Friday, February 1st at 7:30 PM in the auditorium. This year all donations collected will benefit the RED Campaign (AIDS Charity). For an application and more information students should see Mrs. Chunko (room 205) or Mr. Rust (Chorus room).

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE
The National Honor Society is sponsoring a Winter Clothing Drive to benefit the Holiday Telethon and help needy children in Westmoreland County. Students are asked to bring in new or like-new winter items. All students donating will receive raffle tickets for a chance to win great gift certificates for books, movies, and more. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for a dollar each. The NHS will have a collection/raffle sales table at every lunch period through Wednesday, December 19th.
